Two Nigerian Catholic Priests of Nsukka Diocese, Rev. Fr. Peter Chikwado Udaya, the parish priest of St. Patrick’s Parish Ibenda and Rev. Fr. Daniel Tochukwu Akubue, the parish priest of St. Mary’s Parish Ada-Obollo and the assistant Diocesan Liturgist, were on Thursday 12th of July 2018, attacked and severely injured by some youths of Ogbodu-Aba in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

According to report, the priest were attacked on their way back to their duty posts following a brief visit from St. Charles Parish Eha-Ndiagu after they got to Ogbodu-Aba and were stopped, blocked and shamefully harassed by the masquerades.

It was gathered that the slightest attempt by the priests to know what they did wrong that led to the attack was treated with more humiliation and attacks with heavy slaps by the youths who rounded them up and made it difficult for them to escape.

The make the matter worse, it was reported that the crowd that gathered as the incident occured, did not make any attempt at helping the priests but instead encouraged and hailed the youths as they harass the priest.

According to reports, the two priests were eventually rescued by one Mr. Stephen Eze and his wife who later was said to have been ostracized by the community members. It was also gathered that Rev Fr. Chikwado Udaya sustained a lot of injuries during the attack, some of which affected his vision and he has not been able to see with one of his eyes, though he has already undergone an eye operation but the situation is still bad.
