Bukola Sakari reacts to Police report linking him to Offa Robbers

Senate President Bukola Saraki has said that he has responded to the Police’s letter to him in the ongoing Offa robbery investigation.

Saraki made this known in a tweet om Thursday night.
On April 5th, 2018, armed robbers attacked the divisional police station and five banks in Offa, Kwara state, carting properties and cash worth millions of Naira. The attack also led to the death of dozens of persons.
Following the attack, the police made arrests, and said that some of the suspects said they were political thugs for Saraki and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed.
The police subsequently summoned Saraki who later responded that he had no link to the crime.
Saraki, in the statement by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) Yusuph Olaniyonu said the allegations were “baseless” and “another ploy by the Police to implicate him by all means”.
Saraki, who had earlier alerted the senate of an alleged plot to implicate him in the robbery said it was “concocted to embarrass me and, in the mind of the IGP, it is his own response after his refusal to honour the invitation by the National Assembly, headed by me, for him to come and offer explanations on the rampant killings and violence across the country.”
Governor Ahmed, in his response also denied being linked to political thuggery in the state.
“Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed denies the allegations of supporting political thuggery or any other acts of criminality as alleged by the Nigeria Police or the suspects allegedly arrested in connection with the tragic Offa robbery. Neither has he at any time funded or provided arms to any individual or group in the state or anywhere in the country,” his statement read in part.
Following a meeting between vice president Yemi Osinbajo and the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris and Department of State Security (DSS) DG, Lawal Daura, the police later said Saraki should respond in writing, to the allegations, instead of appearing at its headquarters.
